| Description :
| WEDELI KÖHLER has long been regarded as one of Europe's most important swing violinists, and quite a guitar player to boot. The takes on this CD reveal him once more to be a most creative artist and full of ideas. Though strongly rooted in the musical tradition of the German Gypsies, the Sinti, he accepts new trends, thus keeping it alive and ever contributing towards its rejuvenation. His style is derived from three sources: swing jazz à la Django Reinhardt, French swing valse (musette) and Eastern European Gypsy folklore (czardas). Supported by a handful of excellent musicians of this genre, among them his sons Benjamin (piano) and Sascha (guitar), WEDELI KÖHLER takes us on a journey from Broadway to Paris and to the vast expanses of Hungary's Puszta. His carefree, light playing, his technical brilliance and his inventive improvisations, both on violin and guitar, are typical for these takes. His own three compositions fit seamlessly into the program and illuminate his creative potential. Although you might say that this music doesn't follow any current trend, WEDELI has never claimed to be hunting for the latest groove, but rather searching for good, swinging, expressive music. And we all know that that's the kind of music that never goes out of fashion. |
