| Description: | In 1989 a group of Finnish ethnomusicologists from Helsinki’s Global Music Centre journeyed to the Pinar Del Rio province, the tobacco plantation heartland in the west of Cuba. There, in the laid-back, provincial atmosphere, the classic Cuban styles such as Bolero, Danzon and Guaracha-Son have remained rootsier, with a deeper, direct link to African elements. This album presents a fascinating cross-section of styles from a selection of the outstanding local artists and ensembles recorded on that trip.
