They are waiting for distortion. Waiting for Racetrack Babies,one of the newest and most promising band on the Danish indie rock scene, to enter the stage. Christian Andersen, the bare-footed lead singer, starts of the concert with a strident and pervasive yell, letting everybody know that Racetrack Babies is heading for the fast lane this evening. Guitarist Jacob Aaby and bassist Cecilie Ravik join in and the new drummer Villads Berg shows why he was chosen for this band. For the next two hours the audience is part of the racetrack universe – and they love it. They close their eyes when Christian and Cecilie together cry out the song “In the morning” and they explode when “Blow it all away” flows out the speakers. << -The evening was the conclusion of an exciting year for Racetrack Babies. Their debut album “Love Sick” was released in Denmark in February 2002 and received impressive reviews from the Danish newspapers. B.T wrote, “...Love Sick is a very impressive and original debut, which underlines the fact that Danish rock is rising to new heights.” Politiken's reviewer agreed, “...each track has its own distinct character...the album is best when Cecilie Raviks voice builds a scaffold around Christian Andersen's vulnerable vocal.” Following their first release, Racetrack Babies toured all over Denmark promoting the album with great success, which was reflected on the Danish national radio station P3, where the band was played on both Tjek Listen, a voter based chart, and The Electric Barometer, a chart for alternative music. Racetrack also received international recognition, even though the album was not released outside of Denmark. The video for “Changing Weather” stayed on the MTV UP NORTH list throughout August and September, and on MTV Asia the band won a showcase called Soundcheck, and is now on the play list. Finland showed particular interest in Racetrack Babies. The voters on Nordiska Videolistan kept “Changing Weather” on the chart for 12 straight weeks in the fall of 2002, and it was featured on Moon TV several times. The unexpected embracement from the Finnish fans was surprising and heart-warming for Racetrack Babies. Soon after Radio X3M in Helsinki called upon the band. In January 2003, Racetrack Babies joined the stage with Håkon Hellström and Polyester in a fantastic concert at Klub Extrem's event at Tavastia Klubi, which was transmitted live in the radio. Even without an international release, Racetrack Babies' fan base in Finland is growing consistently. And it's about time the fans get the opportunity to enjoy all of Racetrack Babies' wicked tracks from the “Love Sick” album. The first single “It's ok” will be released on March 17 in Finland and the album follows on May 5. Racetrack Babies celebrates the release of the single with a smashing concert in Tampere March 19. | |
