Radio broadcasts are sent in the Finnish, Swedish and Sami languages. The company has recently introduced a variety of new broadband services. The YLE radio archives are currently involved in digitising the entire contents of the historical radio program archive, consisting of about 300,000 radio programs made since 1935. Svenskt Visarkiv - (SVA)Sweden - archive/technical SVA was founded in 1955 on the initiative of Ulf Peder Olrog, scholar and song-writer with an interest in old song traditions. Financial support was given by shipowner Sven Salén. Initially a foundation, the archive's main task was to index and systematise Swedish traditional song material. During the 1960s, economic and personnel resources increased through state subsidies. In 1968 the SVA started to make field recordings. Since then, the archive collects both vocal and instrumental folk music. In 1970 SVA became a state institution and in 1999 became part of the Swedish National Collections of Music. |
