Title:Funky Pukanky
Genre:Ska
Genre:Balkan
Description:FUNKY PUKANKY is an essential addition to the CD collection of every musical world traveller. JAZZDIMENSIONS 2003 PUKANKY means POPCORN in Bulgarian. Combined with FUNKY, it makes for an appropriate title because DI GRINE KUZINE mix their Balkan and Klezmer grooves with more poppy genres like ska and even surf. But the Berlin quintett have nevertheless reminded faithful to their original concept of Eastern European melodies with complex arrangements. Their unusal sound won them the GERMAN FOLK AWARD 2002. It´s a compact mixture of drums, tuba, accordion, trumpet and clarinet. The band´s EASTERN SALSA is extremly dancable. Amusing details like the spaghetti western trumpet in I CUNFIRENTI provide a constant source of amusing surprises. Apart from their ENERGY and HUMOR, the band can also switch into more INTIMATE TERRITORY. The ballads form the highlights of the CD. Accordion player Alexandra Dimitroff proves her EXCEPTIONAL SINGING TALENT here, with a voice, that goes STRAIGHT TO THE HEART. FOLKER 2003
