| Description: | Die Österreichische Mediathek ist die nationale Sammelstelle für Tonaufnahmen und Video. Die Aufgabe liegt darin, sowohl nicht-publizierte Tonaufnahmen und Videos (Unikate) als auch veröffentlichte Medien (Schellacks, Langspielplatten, CDs, Audio- und Videokassetten, DVDs etc.), zu sammeln (bzw. selbst herzustellen), zu katalogisieren und der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich zu machen. Die Österreichische Mediathek wurde 1960 als Österreichische Phonothek vom Ministerium für Unterricht gegründet. Seit 2001 ist sie eine Abteilung des Technischen Museums Wien, einer wissenschaftlichen Anstalt öffentlichen Rechts des Bundes. | |
