| Description: | Initially formed as HMV Pakistan in 1948, and incorporated under its current name on 1st January , 1956. EMI (Pakistan) Ltd, in its initial name HMV Pakistan, was formed in 1948 at Karachi, as an overseas arm of EMI Music International UK. In the time soon after the partition of the sub continent, the symbiosis between newly established independent countries , Pakistan and India, created some of the finest musical product known to the region. As the company progressed so did its stable of Artistes, ranging from the pure classical genre to the blossoming of film soundtracks into popular (pop) music, as the country forged ahead to form an entity in the region, so did the range of repertoire that we were producing. Some of the greatest names in music, Noor Jehan, Mehdi Hassan, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Ghulam Ali, Iqbal Bano, Fareeda Khanum etc, have been and are still associated with the company, which now prides itself in having an archive of over 6000 hours of music. As the domestic market for legitimate music sales has been declining at an alarming level due to piracy, the company, since 2006 has been extensively been servicing the Digital Platforms and distribution channels on a global level. | |
