| Description: | Bereket, from start to finish, is a journey through a particular ethnic soul, a rich and precious history of a people, preserved in its music, both traditional and newly composed. The sequencing of the tracks leads the listener through this journey as though through life, with emotional peaks and valleys, differing tempi and colors, a variety as rich as the people themselves. One of the tunes, Cilveloy, places one in a small Balkan village as a band approaches from the distance, enters the village square, plays a stirring tune, then slowly exits, down the road, on to the next village. That song is a good analogy for the entire CD. The entire album is quite accessible to the non-aficionado; one does, however, need to be a lover of music. While everything on Bereket is quite accessible, it is complex music. It will captivate and move you, but you must be willing and able to abandon yourself to the ride and go along, taking it in as deeply as you can. The performances are all exquisite; these are all masters of their instruments, and of the form. And then, again, it was a series of very on days in the recording studio. Some albums just have that feel, and this one has it. Finally, the recording and production are top-notch. Pristine and sharp, just like the band. | |
